People are splashing out on DIY and sunscreen, as summer arrives.

The biggest increase in May daily spending is in Health and Beauty, Hardware and Homeware.

AIB's Spend Trend shows spending on Homeware rose 4 per cent and clothes by 3 per cent as people head for the outdoors.

AIB Head of SME Retail Banking, John Brennan says spending was up in some counties but down in others:

'The good weather sees migration of people from the centre of the country to the coast.'

'Every county from Donegal anti clockwise around to Louth so an increase in spending over the course of the month.'
