Ten thousand euro a year and more is what some third level students are paying in rent to complete their studies.
That's according to a Labour Party Senator who is calling on the Government to urgently address the issue.
The call comes following a protest at Trinity College in Dublin over a 2 per cent increase in rents.
Senator Annie Hoey has called on the Government to build affordable student housing to alleviate the financial burden on students:L
"Most student accomodation is €10,000 plus for a year, which is unbelievable."
"I would like to see the government step in more, obviously they need to build student accommodation, student accommodation is expensive to build."
"Government needs to step in and finance that, it needs to be guaranteed they'll be affordable rents."
