Agnes, Fergus, Henk and Jocelyn are among the storms which could hit Ireland this winter.
Met Eireann, along with their colleagues in the Netherlands and UK, have confirmed the names chosen for next season's storms.
This year many are named in honour of scientists.
Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather says the names are usually reserved for the most severe weather events:
"Typically a storm is named when there's going to be orange or red warnings."
"Now, it doesn't mean every time there's going to be an orange warning there'll be a storm name, but typically it's orange or red warnings."
"They can be named by any of those three met services. So Met Eireann, the UK Met Office, or the Netherlands."
"So sometimes storms will be named that may not impact directly on Ireland."
