Storm Agnes is making landfall this morning.

A status yellow wind warning is now in place for Leinster, Munster and Galway, along with a separate rain warning for 5 other counties in Leinster.

An orange rain warning  comes into effect for the south-west of the country at 9am.

A yellow wind warning is already in place for Leinster and Munster, with up to 35 millimetres of rain expected over the course of the day in Cork and Kerry.

Road users are being warned to use extreme caution, while people are being advised to stay away from the coastline.

Head of communications with the Road Safety Authority, David Martin has these tips for motorists.

'Slow down and have a greater breaking distance between themselves and the person in front.  I think it's also important to note that people should take special care when driving behind goods vehicles as people know they produce considerable spray and that reduces visibility.'
