Emergency services were called to Westfield Bondi Junction just before 4pm (7am Irish time).
Six people have been confirmed dead after a man carried out multiple stabbings in the shopping centre in Sydney, Australia.
Many more have been injured, including a baby.
The suspect was shot dead by a police officer, after he threatened her at knifepoint.
Assistant Commissioner of New South Wales police, Anthony Cooke, said the officer had been nearby and confronted the attacker on her own.
"A single unit officer, inspector of police who was nearby went into the centre directed by a range of people. She confronted the offender who had moved by that stage to level five. As she continued to walk quickly behind him to catch up with him, he turned, faced her and raised a knife. She released a firearm and that person is now deceased."
Taoiseach Simon Harris took to X to says he's "horrified" by the stabbing attack in Sydney:
I am horrified by the attack in Sydney on innocent people, including children. I will reach out to PM @AlboMP personally but for now the thoughts and prayers of everyone in Ireland are with our Australian friends
