It's in a row over working conditions.
Speed van operators are taking industrial action this weekend.
Workers at GoSafe Ireland, the company which manages speed cameras around Ireland, will strike for 24 hours from 6am on Saturday. Trade union Siptu say that if the concerns of staff continue to be ignored, the dispute could escalate into an indefinite strike.
Workers and management locked in a row over working conditions for staff and trade union recognition. Workers claim they're confined to speed vans for several hours, forced to take lunch while monitoring the machinery and reduced to urinating in a bottle due to a lack of toilet facilities in the vans, according to TheJournal.ie.
Siptu's Brendan Carr said:
“Our members have been left with no option other than to conduct this work stoppage”
"They are aware of the implications this will have on the vital role they play in road safety and have called on motorists to respect speed limits during their action".
