They believe it's unfair to those who are struggling to secure work
Some male barristers have complained about a new policy encouraging more women to join the profession.
They believe it's unfair to those who are struggling to secure work.
The report from the Sunday Business Post relates to a small number of male members of the Bar Council.
They've deemed it as 'unfair' for the policy to promote women over men at a time when many are struggling to find work.
The policy aims to to encourage those who brief barristers, such as solicitors and in-house counsel, to make a conscious effort to fairly distribute work.
Law firms and state entities such as the State Claims Agency will be asked to adopt the policy.
A spokesperson for the Bar Council said they had received no 'adverse' written feedback to the move.
Complaints were made to a Bar Council member who worked on the policy and said most of the male barristers who complained were junior counsel.
