Skin cancer is one of the fastest rising cancers in Ireland, according to a leading expert.
Twelve thousand melanoma and non-melanoma cancers are diagnosed in Ireland each year with the number of cases higher among young people.
It comes as a new report warns that cases of all types of cancer could double by 2045 if current rates continue.
The National Cancer Registry has released the study and there are now calls for the government to plan ahead to tackle the growing figures.
Meanwhile a sun awareness event is taking place at UCD today aiming to highlight the dangers of occasional intense sun exposure and sunburn.
