Sinn Féin tops the popularity poll

Sinn Féin's leader Mary Lou McDonald also remains the most popular political leader.

A new poll shows Sinn Féin remain the most popular political party.

The survey also puts Micheál Martin level with Sinn Fein's Mary Lou McDonald as the most liked party leader.

The Behaviour and Attitudes poll was printed today in the Sunday Times.

Sinn Fein scored 34 points in the poll, nine ahead of Fianna Fáil who are up one to 25.

One of their coalition partners Fine Gael has dropped two points to 20 points.

While the support of the third government party, the Greens, jumped 2 points to 5 since the last poll.

Labour are unchanged at 4 points, while the Social Democrats move up one point to 2, and Solidarity-People Before Property drop one, to one point.

Support for Independents and Others is up one to 9 points.

Support for Tanaiste and Fine Gael leader, Leo Varadkar is also up 3 to 44 points.

The poll, of 928 voters, was carried out at the end of January and the start of February this year just after the government lifted the majority of remaining Covid-19 restrictions.
