The figures come at a time when there’s over 12,000 people living in homelessness here
There are over ten times more short-term holiday lets available on Airbnb than long-term rentals listed on Daft.ie nationally.
Currently there are 15,323 apartments and houses available on Airbnb.
While there are only 1,305 properties available for long term rent across the country.
The figures are revealed as the number of homeless in Ireland reached a record high last week.
In Co. Donegal there is only 37 properties available for long term rent, the majority of these in Letterkenny.
While there are over 1,700 short term lets available.
In some parts of the country there are hundreds of short-term lets available, while there is virtually nothing to rent.
In West Donegal, there are five hundred and seventy two short term lets available on Airbnb, while on daft.ie there is only one house available to rent.
A Donegal Councillor is calling for a cap on the amount of properties available for short-term let on Airbnb.
Cllr Michael Cholm Mac Giolla Easpaig says there's hundreds of houses on Airbnb that should be available to rent:
He states that there are plenty of houses in his area, "All you have to do is look out the window. There are scores and scores of holiday homes. There are scores and scores of houses rented out on Airbnb"
