Large crowds have gathered in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary for the funeral mass of Shane MacGowan.

The service began at half three with people gathering outside St. Mary of the Rosary Church.

Friends, fans and famous faces including Bono, Johnny Depp and Imelda May are in attendance.

His funeral cortège made its way to Tipperary after hundreds of people lined the streets of Dublin to pay their final respects earlier.

From 11 o'clock this morning the city came to a standstill as the funeral cortege began at the South Lott’s Road Junction on Ringsend Road and ending at the top of Westland Row.

The Pogues frontman died last week at the age of 65.

The Irish star had suffered from several health issues in recent years and had been receiving care in St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin for an infection earlier this month.

Born on Christmas Day in 1957 he will always be remembered with one of the most popular Christmas songs in history.

Fairytale of New York will be performed at the service by Glen Hansard and Liam O'Neill.
