Gardaí are appealing for witnesses
A man in his 60s is in critical condition in hospital after an assault in County Mayo.
The incident happened after an altercation at around 1:20 this morning on High Street in Westport.
A man in his 20s was arrested at the scene and is being held by Gardaí at a North West Garda Station.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
Any pedestrians or road users who were in the vicinity of High Street in Westport between 1.00am and 2.00am this morning, Saturday 9th September 2023 and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
