It's emerged a second man was injured in the hit-and-run which killed Kevin Sheehy in Limerick.
A man in his early 20s was struck around the same time that the boxer was hit early yesterday morning.
The Olympic hopeful died on Hyde Road, close to Limerick city centre, at around 4.40am.
Gardaí said the driver of the vehicle believed to have been involved in the incident, a black 4×4 Mitsubishi Shogun jeep, didn't remain at the scene.
Mr Sheehy had won a number of national titles and had competed in a number of international competitions in Europe.
His body was removed to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem examination.
He and his partner were expecting their first baby in the next five weeks.
Boxer Ray Moylette paid tribute to Kevin Sheehy yesterday, saying he was a real talent who left a mark on the industry.
Terrible news breaking this morning. Top Heavyweight & Irish U22 Champ Kevin Sheehy was the victim in a hit-and-run incident last night in Limerick. A real talent who left his mark on #IrishBoxing. Was going to be a dad soon.

Gardaí are continuing to question a man in his late teens and another in his late 20s on suspicion of murder.
They have been transferred from a Garda station in the Midlands to Roxboro Road and Henry Street stations in Limerick.
The second victim has since been discharged from University Hospital Limerick with minor injuries.
