Many politicians are doubtful about whether schools can start reopening from the first of March.

Education Minister Norma Foley has told the cabinet that she hopes next month will see a return to schools for all on a phased basis.

However no agreement has yet been reached with unions or other stakeholders.

Sinn Féin's Education spokesperson Donnchadh Ó' Laoghaire says students need plans not rumours:

"I had hoped that the Department had learned the lessons of some of the debacles around special education in January, where a plan was announced and collapsed on two occasions, because there wasn't agreement with the stakeholders.

"Now the Minister is coming out with a date, without a plan, without detail, without public health advice in advance of stating this date."

Leaving Certificate

A decision on the Leaving Cert. has also been delayed again until later this week at the earliest.

Recently Leaving Cert. students spoke to us about the pressure they are currently under, and how the uncertainty around the exams is affecting them.
