Everyone looking the same is "the Ireland of long ago".
A school principal says students' individual personalities can develop if they don't have to wear a uniform.
It comes after a study found uniforms could be restricting children's ability to stay active, particularly girls in primary classes.
Paula Juliet is the Principal of Thornley Educate Together Primary School in Swords in Dublin.
She said children are more likely to take part in sport and other activities when they don't wear a uniform.
Principal Juliet said nobody is the same and conforming to fit everyone else is a thing of the past.
She said: "Children perform better because they can be individual and they can go play sports in the yard and don't have to be just standing there."
