The funding is to also help increase footfall in towns and cities
Culture Minister Catherine Murphy has confirmed an extra 1.4 million euro is being allocated to a scheme to support the night-time economy.
The scheme is also being created to help increase footfall in towns and cities.
Minister Murphy says there's been overwhelming interest for support on the likes of pubs, nightclubs and cafes.
The scheme will re-open today for applications to help support entertainment at off-peak times.
Applications are for events such as: music, comedy, theatrical productions and art exhibitions.
While we're being encouraged to go out and socialise - this could make the long wait to try and get a taxi even worse.
A study by the NTA (National Transport Authority) found that although 93% of drivers were working - less that 30% were doing shifts at night.
The scheme comes as the taxi shortage at night continues - with reps for the industry saying the fare increase from September will help encourage more cabs to stay out.
But taxi drivers say it isn't worth the hassle.
