Over one thousand calls were answered by the Samaritans every day last year.
Today, July 24th, marks the charity's annual 24/7 awareness day.
Events are taking place across the country to encourage the public to open up, and talk about their mental health.
Jonathan Neville, Regional Director at Samaritans, says its 21 branches are raising awareness in their own way.
He said: "Branches around the country are doing various different things.
"In Galway, they are in Eyre Square Shopping Centre.
"In Newbridge, they are visiting local factories like Intel.
"Drogheda and Athlone are at various locations such as train stations."
Call Samaritans free, day or night, 365 days a year on 116 123.
