Ryanair was Europe's most polluting airline last year

Irish airline Ryanair was Europe's most polluting airline in 2022.

That's according to research from Pan-European Sustainable Travel, which found Ryanair's emissions last year surpassed those of 2019.

Last year the airline carrier emitted 13 point 3 million tonnes of carbon into the environment.

Environmental Journalist, John Gibbons, explains the atmospheric impact of aviation:

"Emissions that are released at ground level, such as from cars and transport, a certain amount of those will make their way into the atmosphere and remain there, and some will be taken up by ocean. Air emissions are all released high into the atmosphere , so the impact of carbon pollution from aviation is disproportionally higher even than what the statistics would suggest."
