RTÉ is being told it has to start making decisions to "cut excess fat" within the organisation.
That's the view of Fine Gael senator and Oireachtas Media Committee member Micheál Carrigy, after the broadcaster suspended the tender for a 'Fair City' photographer.
The controversial contract would have paid 240 thousand euro over four years.
Senator Carrigy says this sort of spending should not be allowed:
"I welcome the decision by RTE to stall the process and indeed we'll review it."
"We highlighted at the Oireachtas meeting on Wednesday that RTE hadn't grasped the situation and hadn't grasped what cost cutting measures need to be put in place."
