RTÉ has released a document outlining how it will record staff and contractor's interests.

It follows the controversy at the broadcaster over the summer.

This plan would involve a 'conflict of interest' form for workers to raise potential issues with line managers.

An external contracts with brands or work away from the broadcaster would have to be declared - with managers having a say as to whether staff would be allowed carry out the work.

It would cover public speaking, writing a newspaper column, taking part in charitable events and being a brand ambassador.

Gifts and benefits from external activities away from RTÉ would also have to be declared.

The list of interests would regularly be published according to RTÉ with the amount of money earned displayed in bands, like below 1,000 euro or between 1,000 and 5,000 euro - however it won't be historic for GDPR reasons.

The National Union of Journalists said the purpose of the register should be to serve the public interest and not public curiosity.

The document will now be reviewed by NUJ members as well as members of the RTÉ Trade Union Group before it would be adopted.
