127 people have died on our roads so far this year.
The Junior Transport Minister says he's committed to reversing the trend in road deaths before Christmas.
127 people have died on our roads so far this year, while Gardaí say they've responded to 600 collisions where people have suffered life-changing injuries.
It comes as the Taoiseach expressed concern over road safety in Ireland.
He says the recent spike in road-deaths is 'not a blip' and needs to be addressed.
Responding to calls for urgent action by the road safety group PARC, Leo Varadkar says he's written to the Garda Commissioner about greater enforcement.
He's also asking for a meeting of the ministerial committee on road safety, after a month marked by horrific tragedy on our roads.
Junior Transport Minister Jack Chambers says he's meeting the Justice Minister next week to discuss the matter:
'We want to strengthen the enforcement with An Garda Síochána, but also bring forward the speed limit review.'
'The impact of that would be reduced speed limits on our roads.'
'That in addition to strength and enforcement and targeted campaigns, we want to do everything to reverse this trend.'
