Respite for households as energy price cuts come into effect.

Around two million households nationwide are set to benefit from a decrease in electricity and gas prices from today.

Electric Ireland, SSE Airtricity, and PrePay Power customers will see prices fall by between 10 and 13.5 percent.

Both Flogas and Bord Gáis Energy will follow suit from next Monday, as decreases announced in recent weeks are finally set to take effect.

Daragh Cassidy from Bonkers dot ie says it's good news for customers across the country ahead of the winter months.

'Prices are going to fall between 10 per cent and 13.5 per cent and that will save households a few hundred euro on their gas and electricity and I think it will be warmly welcomed as we move into the winter months and then on top of that, next week we're going to see price decreases from Flo Gas and Boird Gais energy as well so all in all around 2 million households will benefit and like I said it's good to have some good news on the energy front for once.'
