There are calls to stop publishing addresses of election candidates- due to fears of far-right attacks.

Green Party TD Patrick Costello has written to the Electoral Commission to say the practice should end because of the threat it poses to people running for office.

There have been recent incidents where homes of politicians have been targetted, including a window being smashed at the home of Councillor Hugh Lewis in Ballybrack in Dublin.

Labour TD Aodhán Ó Ríordáin says publishing the addresses of public representatives needs to end.

He said: "It's a sad turn of pass where we have to even consider that a pubic representative would be nervous about having their home address in the pubic sphere - but that is where we are at.

"The type of protest we have is intensifying and getting more personalised, not just against politicians, but we've seen it in libraries."
