The Dáil is set to pass a motion calling for a crackdown on myths about vaccines.
Health Minister Simon Harris is bringing forward the motion which enjoys cross party support.
It says vaccine hesitancy is a major risk to public health and that politicians need to do more to tackle myths and misinformation about vaccination.
Sinn Féin's Health Spokesperson Louise O'Reilly says it's an important message;"It's really an opportunity for us as politicians to make a statement in relation to vaccines and in relation to the vaccine programmes"
The motion comes as there's been a number of measles cases in Europe over the last year.
Deputy O'Reilly has been acknowledging that "we've all seen the screening programmes get a bit of a hit recently in terms of publicity", but she claims this motion is an "important opportunity for politicians to come together, politics aside, and to actually get behind this motion and support it".
The Health Minister says he's looking for legal advice on how to make it mandatory for children attending school or creche to be vaccinated.
Simon Harris claims he'd "like people to be persuaded by the facts and medical evidence that vaccines work".
