High demand was reported in Galway, Cork and Dublin
Over a thousand dinners were delivered to elderly people living alone on Christmas Day this year.
Irish Charity ALONE says the meals were distributed nationwide, with high demand in Dublin, Cork and Galway.
Frank Dillon, Head of Communications at the organisation. says the holiday period is an especially busy time for them:
"We had over 400 volunteers helping us deliver those dinners and staff were also manning the national support and referral line that we use as a contact for most older people to get in contact directly
"In the run up to Christmas we made about 7,000 calls just to check in on the older people we work with.
"It's been a busy time, but a good time, and that's what we're here for."
The charity, which has five offices across the country, can be reached on their National Support Line at 0818 222 024.
