A new development on the Tuam Road outside Galway has been shelved.
Original report from the Galway City Tribune
An Bord Pleanála has overruled plans to develop a 'new town' outside Galway City on the Tuam Road.
Galway City Council proposed a 19-acre development which was to include new apartments, offices, a supermarket and a hotel.
The site was to be located off the Tuam Road where the City North Business Park currently lies.
The proposed site was about a 4km drive from Eyre Square, between Two Mile Ditch and Bóthar na dTreabh.

An Bord Pleanála said the proposal wasn't in line with the Council's rezoning in their City Development Plan.
They said it represented an 'urban sprawl' as opposed to a brand new suburb.
Another reason for the refusal was the dependency of traffic from trips of private cars.
Galway City has long been a traffic hotbed, and many have called for more public transport options as a result.
