The new rates will be phased in later this year
New public transport fares are being introduced which will benefit some commuters into Dublin, but hit the pockets of others.
The National Transport Authority says the new costs, which will be phased in later this year, are fairer.
The Dublin Commuter or short hop Zone is being extended 50km to include towns like Drogheda, Navan, Newbridge and Greystones meaning fare decreases on rail of between 20 and 50%.
However, bus fares are set to go up in some places like from Cavan to Dublin which is increasing by 21%.
Due to a number of anomalies the National Transport Authority says fares on public transport into and around Dublin have been disjointed.
In an attempt to make it more standardised, a number of new fares which were flagged last year will now be introduced.
Elsewhere, the Dublin City Zone is to extend 23 kilometres and will now include Rathoath and Ashbourne.
A new monthly and annual Leap card will also be available which the NTA says will be 38% cheaper for those travelling within Dublin city.
