A decision to no longer accept cash payments for the NCT must be reversed, according to one TD.
The operator of the National Car Test is to phase out the practice, and will only accept digital transactions or postal orders.
It says it's for the "safety and convenience" of its customers.
But Aontu leader Peadar Toibin says cash is the only 'inclusive' method of payment, and is especially important for crucial services like the NCT.
"This is a service, which is not a service that people can decide to use or not. It's a mandatory service."
"If you don't get an NCT, if you drive without and NCT, the penalty is that you could be fined up to two grand, get 5 penalty points or even be imprisoned for up to three months."
"If it's a state service such as that, it needs to be accessible to everybody."
