National Slow Down Day is now underway on the country's roads.

Gardai will be out in force until 7 o'clock tomorrow morning, checking for drivers who are speeding.

The number of lives lost on the roads increased last year, to 157 deaths, the highest number recorded since 2016.

So far this year there have been 52 deaths on our roads.

It's estimated 30 per cent of road deaths are a direct result of speeding.
