A man who claims to be the son of boxer Muhammad Ali has been spared jail after starting a row and threatening Gardaí in Dublin.

Ibn Muhammad Ali pleaded guilty to breaching the peace in Smithfield in Dublin on August 7th.

Ali gave two ages to the court - 39 and 51.

He has also pleaded guilty to giving Gardaí a false address - a Muhammad Ali tourist centre in the United States.

Court heard he arrived from England seven weeks ago and had been camping outside the American Embassy in Dublin.

A Garda gave evidence that Mr Ali flagged him down and told him another man had his jumper.

Gardaí spoke to the other man who was able to produce a receipt for the jumper and when Ibn Muhammad Ali was asked to leave the area he failed to comply which led to his arrest.

He faced bail concerns because of his identity.

Ibn Muhammad Ali claims he is the kidnapped son of boxer Muhammad Ali from his third marriage.

His defence told the court he had come to Ireland to research his family background as the boxer had relatives in Ennis.

The Judge spared him a conviction and a sentence and told his solicitor that she hoped the accused could be persuaded to get some assistance.
