The hikes in tolls comes as the rate of inflation is at 6%
There's fresh misery for motorists as further road toll increases are on the way next year.
The Business Post reports Transport Infrastructure Ireland has warned that a failure to hike prices will scare off investors in other projects.
It's expected to increase charges by up to 20 cent per trip as it prepares to launch MetroLink.
The potential 20 cent increase in M50 tolls alone would increase costs by over 100 euro per year for drivers making five return journeys on the motorway per week.
The government delayed previous road toll increases of between 10 and 20 cent for six months earlier this year, following to a public backlash.
Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Transport, Martin Kenny, says the news is very disappointing for motorists:
"I think the situation here that the toll companies are using, inflation as an excuse to put up road toll prices is simply profiteer in my point of view and I think the junior minister Jack Chambers needs to stand up to the toll companies."
