A motorcyclist (34) has died at a racing event in Co. Westmeath

The man was airlifted to the Mater Hospital in Dublin where he was later pronounced dead.

A motorcyclist has died in a crash during a road racing event in County Westmeath.

It happened at the Walderstown Motorcycle event, which has been abandoned.

The 34 year-old man from the North was seriously injured when his motorbike crashed during a race at around half past 11 this morning.

He was treated at the scene before being airlifted to the Mater Hospital in Dublin where he was later pronounced dead.

The event has been abandoned and Garda forensic collision investigators are examining the crash site.

Investigations are ongoing, the Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

A file will be prepared in accordance with the Coroners Act.
