An unpublished report says that engineers are finding issues with Mica and other defective building materials in more counties than previously thought.
A scheme for around 7,500 homeowners, mostly in Clare and Donegal, was approved by Government last year and will see 100% redress to cover the rebuilding costs of their homes up to a maximum value of 420 thousand euro each.
However the Irish Times says a report from the expert group investigating the Mica scandal shows engineers have now uncovered issues with defective blocks in a number of other counties and says the redress scheme may have to be expanded.
The report, seen by the newspaper, says:
"Engineers Ireland have signalled that their members have been testing homes in other counties the results of which are indicating that the problem may be far more widespread than feared”.
“What is not clear is how many homes within these additional counties may ultimately be impacted."
