Homeowners impacted by defective building blocks are warning of further protests unless 'immediate' changes are made to the government's redress legislation.

A group representing homeowners in Donegal, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Limerick's proposing 80 amendments.

A  debate on the bill took place in the Dail this afternoon, with government aiming to enacted it next month.

In a joint statement, the group say the legislation as it stands will not work and they'll continue their campaign and protests until the necessary changes are made.

The group say:

"Minister let us be clear, so our words are not misunderstood. If this bill is not amended, we the homeowners will not support it.

We will continue our campaign and protests until it is amended, until it is fit for purpose. Fit for the citizens of this country who need to avail of it to fix their homes.

It is not just our houses that this is destroying, but our daily lives, our working lives, our family lives, our physical and mental wellbeing, the very fabric of our communities."
