A status yellow high temperature warning is now in effect across the country.

Met Eireann says it will last until Saturday morning.

The forecaster is warning that with temperatures over 27 degrees, heat stress and water related incidents are possible.

We're being asked to conserve water, as the spell of warm weather continues.

Uisce Eireann is appealing to the public to take practical steps as part of its "Think Water Conservation" campaign.

Over half of homes admit to wasting water, with usage in Dublin alone reaching up to 20 million litres a day in warm weather.

Meanwhile, we're being warned that wearing sunscreen alone is not enough to stop us burning.

The HSE is reminding people of the importance of protecting their skin, with over 13 thousand skin cancer cases recorded every year.

Selene Daly is a dermatology nurse at Sligo University Hospital and has this advice if you're heading out in the sun.

'Sunscreen is actually only one very important part of the sun smart code, that's wearing a hat, staying in the shade between 11 and 3, keeping a t-shirt , wearing sunglasses and wearing sunscreen as well.'
