Marie Tierney.Marie Tierney disappeared on the 22nd October 1984.
A man in his 70's has been arrested by Gardaí investigating the murder of Marie Tierney in Kilkenny nearly 35 years ago.
Marie Tierney was 34 when she was reported missing having left her home in her car at Jenkinstown, Kilkenny on the 22nd October 1984.
Her car was located later that day in Newpark, Kilkenny.
A search was carried out by Gardaí and Marie’s body was discovered on the Bleach Road, Kilkenny later that year on the 21st of December 1984.
Gardai launched a murder investigation.
As part of the inquiry the body of Marie Tierney was exhumed last year on the 31st of October at Conahy Graveyard, Kilkenny and taken for examination to Waterford University Hospital.
Gardai this morning arrested a man in his 70s in connection with the investigation.
He is currently detained in Kilkenny Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984.
