The incident happened late last night.
A man in his 80s has been arrested after a man in his 60s was shot dead in Co Mayo late last night.
The incident happened at around 11.55pm in Aghamore near Ballyhaunis.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, which is currently preserved for a technical examination.
A man in his 80s has been detained in relation to the incident and is being held at Castlebar Garda station.
