Gardai are questioning a man in his 20's after a 14-year-old boy was rescued from the boot of a car in Dublin last night.

The incident unfolded rapidly in Finglas yesterday evening when armed gardai on routine patrol in the Fairlawn area spotted a car being driven erratically at 7.30pm.

They tried to stop the vehicle but the driver drove to Kippure Park and the four occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.

However Gardai arrested the driver not far away.

They then heard noises coming from the boot, and when they opened it found the 14-year-old boy inside.

Armed Gardai took him from the car and he is due to be interviewed today under age-appropriate circumstances. He appeared to by physically unharmed, but was clearly shaken by the incident.

Gardaí believe the motive for the suspected abduction was a small debt he owed.
