It happened just after 3pm.
A man in his 70s has died after a crash in County Louth.
The incident happened shortly after 3pm when a car and a van collided on the R178 Carrickmacross Road.
The man, who was driving the car at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a man in his mid-teens, was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. His injures are not thought to be life threatening.
The driver of the van, a man in his 40s, was taken by Air ambulance to Tallaght University Hospital where his condition is said to be serious.
The scene is currently preserved and Garda forensic collision investigators will examine the crash site. Local traffic diversions will be in place overnight on the R178 between Ballykelly and Essexford.
Gardaí at Ardee are appealing for witnesses to come forward and are also appealing to those with dash cam footage to make it available to investigators.
