Limerick senior hurler Kyle Hayes has avoided a custodial sentence after being found guilty by a jury at Limerick Circuit Court last December of violent disorder.
That was following an incident at a nightclub in 2019 which left a man with serious facial injuries.
The judge has imposed a suspended sentence of two years on Mr. Hayes and ordered the 25 year old to pay a fine of €10 thousand to the victim in the assault, Mr. Cillian McCarthy.
Hayes had pleaded not guilty to the charges and was given a character reference by Limerick manager John Kiely.
Judge Dermot Sheehan said in court that an “immediate custodial sentence was not necessary".
