A teenage boy and a man are 'stable' after being airlifted to Galway University Hospital following a level crossing crash in County Mayo.

They were travelling in a car that was hit by the 12.45 Dublin-Heuston to Westport train, near Claremorris yesterday afternoon.

190 passengers were on board, but no-one on the train was injured.

The rail line has reopened and full services will operate today between Westport and Dublin.

Irish Rail's Jane Cregan says there are a number of seperate inquiries into the crash.

Jane says, "We [Irish Rail] will conduct our own internal investigation and the rail accident rail investigation unit, they will also undertake an investigation and the Gardaí's investigation is ongoing."
