Kerry natives say they'll never forget the tragedy..
Two people have been released without charge in the longstanding Kerry Babies investigation. They were arrested Thursday and held for questioning for 24 hours.
Gardaí say files on the case are being prepared for the DPP while the inquiry is ongoing.
The body of a five-day-old infant, known as Baby John, was discovered with multiple stab wounds in a bag on a beach in Cahersiveen in April 1984.
The baby’s body was exhumed in 2021 to establish a full DNA profile.
People in south Kerry say they will never forget the tragedy.
A woman said: "I know the man who found the poor baby on the beach you know. When you go to the area, you do think about the baby over there on the rocks."
One man said: "Well, it was an open mystery for a long time. For this length of time for it to come out that someones been arrested, surprising yeah."
Speaking about the Hayes family, who were involved in the Kerry babies trial in 1984 this woman said: "They picked on her because she was a sitting duck. They frightened that family into the condition that they just said yes to everything."
The case files are now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
