US President Joe Biden has began his 4 day trip of the island of Ireland.
He'll make a speech today marking the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.
Afterwards he's expected to meet the leaders of the north's political parties and press the need for a resumption of power sharing.
The trip comes as the threat level in Northern Ireland has been increased from substantial to severe.
Meanwhile President Biden will undertake a walkabout in Dundalk town centre this evening as part of his historic visit to County Louth.
Mr Biden is also expected to visit Carlingford Castle, a Norman stronghold built in the 12th century.
A high-level security operation is in place and people attending today's events are being advised not to carry bags of any sort.
Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, Conor Keelan, says they're delighted the President is visiting the county.
'People who are attending the visit are asked to come in for half five and assemble in the town, it will be the second time we've had a President visit Dundalk, obviously we've had President Clinton visit a few years ago so this is an equally historic moment.'
