Irish man dies while on holiday in Spain

He's thought to have died in a swimming tragedy.

A 35 year old Irishman's died while on holiday in northern Spain, close to the French border.

The accident is understood to have happened late on Thursday evening, where he died in a swimming tragedy.

The Irish Times report that the man decided to go for a swim after a day walking with friends when a sandy bank collapsed.

He was dragged from the water but was unresponsive. After efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, he was pronounced dead a short time later and his body was taken to a nearby hospital for a postmortem.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it's providing consular assistance to the man's family.
