Ireland only has half the amount of CAMHS beds needed to look after children who are struggling with their mental health.

That's according to the Psychiatric Nurses Association after 11 beds were closed at the Linn Dara Unit in Cherry Orchard in Dublin.

Psychiatric nurses are calling on Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly to make changes.

They want to ensure that resources are put in place so the beds are re-opened as a matter of urgency.

There are fears that some children could be left behind as the mental health services aren't there to help them in their time of need.

PNA General Secretary Peter Hughes says they have been in this position before.

Hughes revealed that this occurred previously 5 years ago.

11 beds were closed and stayed closed for three to four months.

They are planning to keep the 11 beds at the Linn Dara Unit in Cherry Orchard closed for four months.

"It brings the national capacity to 56 beds, there should be 100 inpatient beds for CAMHS" says Hughes.
