It's World Mental Health Day.
New research shows that 1 in 4 young people said they didn’t know where to go if they needed mental health support.
The research by charity Spunout was funded by the HSE’s National Office for Suicide Prevention.
And it involved over 1 thousand 400 young people.
It also found that 43 percent of 16-25 year olds in Ireland don't reach out for mental health support when they need it.
And that 1 in 3 young people don't feel that they could recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression or disordered eating.
It comes on World Mental Health Day, and Spunout have launched a #OpenMinds campaign.
The campaign's goal is to increase young people's understanding of their own mental health.
While it also wants people to have deeper conversations surrounding their mental health and wider mental health issues.
Although we hear mental health being talked about more nowadays, Spunout diretor, Kiki Martire, says we need to "dive a bit deeper".
94% of young people frequently hear mental health language used jokingly in everyday conversations.
"Oftentimes when things become more common, we lose that nuance complexity"
"Most people have a basic understanding but there are also misconceptions and gaps," Kiki added.
