The Pfizer jab has been approved for that age group.
Vaccination of children between 12 and 15 against Covid-19 could start as early as next month.
The European Medicines Agency approved the use of the Pfizer jab for that age group in May.
The Sunday Independent reports NIAC is expected to make a decision shortly on offering it to children here.
DCU Professor of Health Systems, Anthony Staines, says under 18s will have to be vaccinated.
"Very high levels of vaccine coverage is needed to prevent major outbreaks and we're not going to get that high level of vaccine coverage probably until we vaccine teenagers and children," he said.
It comes after the Johnson & Johnson jab has been made available to those aged between 18-34 from tomorrow from pharmacies.
The Irish Pharmacy Union says its members have received an overwhelming level of interest from that age group.
However it says many people could be left disappointed as there have been 10 calls for every vaccine that's currently available.
