More than 7,000 people signed up in the space of 4 days.

The HSE said the move marks a big increase on recent weeks when there was an average of 800-1,000 per day.

It comes at the end of a week dominated by the lifting of further covid rectrictions.

Capacity at weddings, sporting and music events returned to 100%, while nightclubs re-opened last night.

However, the requirement for a covid cert to dine indoors remained.

It had been thought that covid passes would be scrapped but they're likely to stay for the foreseeable future.

This could explain the rise in interest in covid vaccines.

Almost 40 walk-in Covid vaccination clinics are operating throughout the country over the bank holiday weekend.

They're for people who are looking for their first or second dose.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health has confirmed a further 2,427 cases of Covid 19 today.

It's the second highest daily total since late January.

There are 449 patients hospitalised with the virus - a decrease of six on yesterday.

93 patients are in ICU with the virus - up three since Friday.
