Russia's relocating live-fire military drills planned for Irish seas this week

Concerns were raised this week over the exercise.

Russia's relocating live-fire military drills that had been planned for Irish seas this week.

The exercises were due to take place in Ireland's exclusive economic zone from Thursday, 240km off Cork.

However, Defence Minister Simon Coveney says Russia has agreed to move outside the zone after he raised concerns.

The military exercises also angered fishermen in the South West of Ireland as they were fearful for both their working area and the marine life there.

It comes amid rising tensions over the border between Ukraine and Russia.

Vladimir Putin's army has built up a force of tens of thousands on its Western border with its neighbour.

Meanwhile, the British Foreign Secretary says 'deterring' Russia from invading Ukraine is her 'number one priority'.

It comes as Britain is set to double the number of its troops to NATO in eastern Europe.

Liz Truss says she's ruling nothing out, and explains why she's telling the military to prepare for deployment.

"This is about making sure we bolster our NATO allies, who we have direct commitments to.

As well as supplying those defensive weapons into Ukraine to make sure it's much harder for the Russians to think it's an easy target," Truss said.
