The Bank Holiday usually means roads are busier.
With the bank holiday weekend coming to an end, roads around the country are expected to be busy.
New research by the Road Safety Authority's found 4 out of 5 road deaths this year have taken place on rural roads.
The report says 12 noon to 4pm is the riskiest time.
Brian Farrell of the RSA is urging road users, especially those travelling in rural areas, to take extreme care.
"Everyone should slow down, they are so much busier with people travelling and staycationing," he said.
He also added that people should "expect the unexpected".
That message from the RSA is also backed by Gardaí.
They also are urging people on rural roads to be "extra careful" in particular around tourist spots.
